Poetry must be something but nobody

Poetry must be something but nobody

A Poem by Firestone Feinberg

Poetry must be something but nobody
Seems to know what it is I mean I
Looked it up in a dictionary and
It said poetry is like words in
A certain rhythm and all but then
In another dictionary it said something
About forms and then started talking
About Shakespeare and this Marlowe guy and
Then another dictionary talked about

Free verse which you probably don't have
To pay for or anything and it said all
This confusing stuff about Modernism with
A capital M and then it talked about
Post-Modernism which had capitals too and
I mean I know what a post is and also what a
Post office is but whatever modern posts are
I can't tell you.  I guess post and poem
Sort of rhyme or whatever but I mean so what.
