Nicky's Light

Nicky's Light

A Poem by Rose Black
"

He left and I still see him. He was what I am. His smiles became my memory, His frowns my burden.

"

He left.

Didn’t know the kid.

Never met his pain,

Though we were in the same club.

Before he preformed

The ultimate disappearing act,

He wouldn’t say a word.

No final note or letter.

We sat on marble floors,

Waiting for his ghost

To smile or frown one more time.

I saw what he left.

In the bowl of my morning cereal

Or in the slaving’s of the world

I’m required to do.

He left and I still see him.

He was what I am.

His smiles became my memory,

His frowns my burden.

All to look forward to

Was not explicitly explained to him,

He did not read and agree

To the contracts of life’s vicious contract.

But there he was.

Grey but happy.

At ease, peaceful, surrendered.

Thank you God,

For giving him rest,

But f**k you,

For making him need it in the first place.
