Inside The Fire

The fire burns to the touch

Burns so badly in that FIRST instant

One thinks they might die

From that BURNING sun

(The burning is the worst part ; but it eventually fades into numbness) 

There are songs

There are poems 

About this FIRE

But none ever say

That it's better to be INSIDE the FIRE

The fires will pass 

They say

AND the scars will fade

They say

With their golden tongues

AND velvet tones

But

That fire is all I've ever KNOWN

And I have no intention of LEAVING
