Aftermath

Aftermath

A Poem by Withoutwords
"

Dealing with trauma, shock, and depression

"

Silenced by enormity

Surrounded by air so thick

you could push it aside

Alone in a frozen world

While others walk on

Pulse beating in your ears

A vacuumed whoosh erasing outside sound

Drowning out the crowd

Pressure crushing against your chest

Incessant pounding

of blood behind your eyes

preventing coherent thought

Shallow, shaky, breaths

that do not satisfy

Drinking at the air

Like water in a desert

Soul crouched in the corner

Rocking and trying to escape

To push out the chaos

and make sense of a world

that holds nothing but pain
