Liturgical Year

A Poem by A Shared Narrative
"

Three haiku poems highlighting seasons in the Christian church

"
Mary didn't know
falling snowflakes or shining ice
in Bethlehem

.

autumn trees baring branches
children beneath play at devilry
the eve of the saints

.

snowmelt exposes birthing green
a season of ash, sacrifice, and death
for Christians

Author's Note

A Shared Narrative
Contemporary haiku poetry doesn't have to be bound by the 5-7-5 rule that we're familiar with, but I do try to stay focused on natural and seasonal imagery to create that sensation that the form is known for.

This is probably my second attempt since primary school at writing any kind of haiku.

(2016-Feb-27: Submitted to the "Haiku for you!" contest being run by WC user Jesse W. from 31-Jan to 29-Feb. Three submissions were allowed, and this one document will count for all of them.)

(2016-Feb-29: No awards received for any of the three haiku.)
