You and I

You and I

A Poem by Nia Lisa

I don't want to live in a universe without you next to me
Sometimes I step out of my universe and step into what was once ours

With bare feet on the wooden floor I tip toe across your room and lay down in what was once our bed, next to you

I rest my head on my favorite nook of your chest

And when the sun rises and you open your eyes, you smile and tell me

"You came home"

You are so overjoyed with sun speckled tears

And we laugh

And we dance to your afrobeats
Soles hitting richmond floors

The smell of spring reaching out through open windows

And carrying us back to the beginning
