The Cat's Meow

The Cat's Meow

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

The Cat’s Meow

Erasing names

from the neighbors prescription bottles,

pushing the cat

out the dog door,

forgetting about life

for a while.

Just a stitch,

the blink of gods gray eye,

and the supplementation

of seconds

for hours,

a moment to relax

not to remember.

The tangling of feet

the tingling in the fingers, toes,

and places in the middle.

Junky daydreams

in dirty blankets,

keeping the medication down

with that glazed look;

star struck on stage.

A sunbeam cuts like a knife,

glinting off an old whiskey bottle.

And it’s time for another dose,

as the cat

peeks in

from the outside.
