Hardwood

Hardwood

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Hardwood

New life cries

on the bad side of town,

nobody listens

but everyone cares,

small and innocent

in the dirty low down.

Specks of crack

litter the hardwood floor,

warped and potted

from junky urine

and stale beer.

The blanket thin

and not for warmth,

but good to grab

when the milk runs dry.

Living a life brutal,

as the hardwood floors.
