Should I Dare Ask the Question?

Should I Dare Ask the Question?

A Poem by Jacob Galloway

My feelings grow strong,
And heartbreak with them, stronger--
The absence is long,
And the mourning lasts longer.

Never have I felt like this,
And thusly, what to do is unknown,
I must close my eyes through this abyss,
And let my heart simply guide me.

With the risk of gain,
Comes near certainty of sadness,
And the humane question arises--
Is it all worth it?

And so I pose my question,
In my existential crisis,
And should I provide a purpose,
By simply being yours?

Sorrow is what we make it,
And mine has gotten to me too long.
I break away from it,
But like a stray puppy, it follows.

Perhaps one day, love will grow beyond,
And at this point, happiness will arise.
But for now, I play this sad song.
And through it, a chance of happiness dies.
