Wilting Flower

Wilting Flower

A Poem by Jacob Galloway

May-December Poems

"
Your presence serves as a daily reminder of my inadequacy,
Hard work doesn't prevail in this story.
And despite my efforts to be your perfect prince,
My only resultant was ending up without a princess.

Sorrow fills my mind each and every second,
And tears fill my eyes at the thought of you.
And even though I thought I'd reached my breaking point,
I continue living on, and this sadness grows more painful.

Despite missing you, I hold onto hope.
I long mourn the return of my sweet angel.
And although this return will never come,
I, like most humans, stay wishful for what will never be.

See, our dreams fill our minds--
Unrealistic they may be.
And although you are gone,
Oh my sweet angel,
You fill my dreams and thoughts,
And every moment I have.
This unhealthy connection,
Constantly wishing your return--
But love holds no remorse for what it has done to me.

And so this broken romance eats away at me,
And like a flower, I will wilt.
And only the few, who knew me before,
Will know of the beauty you gave me,
That beauty before my wilting.
