Bone, Stone, & Trees

Bone, Stone, & Trees

A Poem by C. M. Miller
"

A friend spent some time on a mountain, alone, no food or water for three days. This was written in honor of her quest.

"

This land of ancient trees greets the passing of time

with a solemn serenity, a silent witness to all their

countless years . . . faithful historians

of all that transpires.

A child-she enters into this chronicle of trees,

walking beneath their sheltering boughs,

between their spaces of awareness,

memories, and wonder.

Into this land she brings nothing . . . she brings all that she is.
She strides ‘round her sisters, patiently standing tall and eternal.
They bid her welcome, and challenge.

Join us, child-she.
Rest. Dream. Be.

A soft patch of earth gently enfolds her reclining form.

Night is to day, as day is to night. Three times thus.
Up through the embracing arms of her sisters
she spies the evening star and she listens . . .

Hair meets with grass, an entwined, indistinguishable union.
In a blink, her eyes become the waters of the world.
Fingers squeeze the earth and become the very roots of life.

The sinuous calm of her body forms
the rolling hills and majestic valleys.

Hipbones join with the stones of the land,
creating the foundation of all that she is to become.
Her thoughts melding with futures and dreams
yet to be . . . possibilities abound.

Release, oh blessed release.

This is beautiful ..

I can see it all, a picture; the words are so descriptive, gentle ... creating an almost mystictouch, a spiritual hand.

'through this whisper of ancient land and trees . . .
between the spaces of awareness and wonder.'

This could almost refer to death, or, the death of a past and an awakening into something far different and better.

Thank you for sharing this superb post.

This poem is a lovely thing! I can identify strongly with this and know that it rings true, Every so often i take off into the hills in Scotland and this experience that you describe of being at one with nature is spot on'.
You might be interested to look at my story 'Woody'. It is one chapter from my novel Full Circle and may correlate quite strongly with your work. I was able to use my own frame of mind when i get manic! (not the finale!)
Thanks

The sinuous calm of her body forms

This poem made my day, such a remarkable psychological study, yes, also - of her state - in those 3 days she was alone with nature and its mountains; what it imprints on the memory is not just the extraordinary imagination I have... but the impression of one bright idea, like a single movement which seemed to her to be eternity... I loved it. beautiful.
