Give Me Not Roses

Give Me Not Roses

A Poem by Amanda

Oh, give me not roses all sparkling with dew,
For flowers soon wither away;
Nor give me bright jewels with their dazzling hues,
For their glitter will soften and fade.

And give me not words of whose worth you know naught,
For sentiments change with the day;
Just give me a love that could never be bought,
And promise forever to stay.

The first stanza popped into my head while driving one day, and the rest quickly followed.

You have said a mouthful here. Perfectly executed with a message that all should seek to acknowledge. Kudos.
