A ghost interferes with a relationship.

Ghost Lover

You don't know her pain

when she contemplates your eyes

dodging truth to feign

clever stories based on lies.

In your smile, she sees his light.

In your strength, she feels his might.

You don't know the strain

of her former broken ties.

You just feel the gain

of a love that you surmise.

Each phantasmic flaming night

isn't meant for your delight.

You don't know the main

motivation for her sighs.

You ignore her rain

as you touch her fair sunrise.

Underneath her secret plight

burns a flame that must incite.

You compete in vain

with a ghost who never dies,

one not to be slain.

Only she may hear his cries.

In her dreams, they both take flight

from dark shadow to bright white.

Employing your classic style of writing as you previously mention with our last discussion. Ok this is a relationship but there seems to be a third party involve or perhaps a love triangle that maybe causing some distractions on the side of the intended or admired person. Or perhaps it could be a person's dark past or failed relationship that didn't work out well and it could somehow or may somehow cause a dent in this new sprouting and blossoming relationship with a new person should he finds out about her past...

Thanks for your review, Neil! The ghosts of other loves has a way of interfering with present relationships. When she calls out her lover’s name in the middle of a dream, it may not be yours. Everyone carries emotional baggage deep within their subconscious mind.

Thanks, quinfinn! Yes, I always try to keep to meter, and exact non-forced rhymes while telling a logical story. I often use only two rhyme sounds throughout an entire poem.
