Modern Day Demeter

Modern Day Demeter

A Poem by Agonizing Clarity

Life sprouts from her fingertips
Her hands as rakes, she tills the dry
barren ground and creates
rather than destroys

Dry soil becomes new
black moist fertile
and seeds that lay dormant
for decades
planted
and they push through blackness
absorbing nutrients
on their quest
for life

Her fingers have held many
instruments
From blades to pencils to hands,
her hands have seen better days.

Days filled with warmth and intensity,
intertwining fingers and the touch of a fellow person.
Her hands have touched many beautiful things
from paintings done by the greats
to the cheeks of smiling children who gaze
at her passing.

She has seen better days
but even through the hardships
she is as Demeter
smiling down at the world
that had thrived at her touch

"The world has seen enough pain. It has enough ugly in it.
No use in adding more hurt in the world.
Just add some love into it.
I'm not saying it's going to be easy.
Nothing is easy. But I find that
it's the most rewarding decision."
