A Story by Ahira Jen
"

Faye just had her sixteenth birthday, what will happen next?

"

Just after her sixteenth birthday, Faye, the daughter of Lord Freud and Lady Laila, received an invitation from a count from a faraway land. Word has spread that the count sends invitations to the daughters of noblemen who have turned sixteen on their birthday, inviting them over to his manor so that he could give them a present personally.

Suspicious of his intent, many noblemen refused to let their daughters go, let alone let them know about the invitation. But sadly, every night after receiving the invitation, the girls vanish from their rooms never to be seen again.

Tonight as Faye dressed herself in her nightgown, she bid goodnight her parents before heading to bed. Knights were stationed by her bedroom and a maid was to be by her side while she slept, keeping guard and instructed to scream with all her might if any suspicious activity were to arouse during the night.

Dong, dong, dong. Three strikes from the grandfather’s clock in the hallway. The knights were on high alert because they knew the count was coming.

A loud scream was heard from Faye’s bedroom. The knights rushed into Faye’s bedroom only to find the maid down cold on the ground. Faye on the other hand, was nowhere to be seen. Cool breeze blew in from the window. With the curtains flustering, a note was attached to the jamb with a small decorative knife.

It read, “I have found another precious jewel to add into my keepsake. Signed, the Count Adney.”
