State of Limbo

State of Limbo

A Poem by Anima Akuffo

Don't ever get stuck in limbo
The place where nothing gets done
It's a dangerous life in Limbo
A place between desire and decline

Here there are no contests nor awards
No pains nor gains, no guts nor glory
No fear nor foe, no fire, no glow
Just a bland unchanging story
Of no prospects nor fools rewards

Its somewhere between waiting and heartache
Her citizens prisoners of hope
- victims in a wishing well
Neither coming nor going
In between heaven and its hell

Whatever will be will be
They croon in careless limbo
Caught in a thick haze of ennui
Spaced in a foggy mist of boredom

Out of sync is life in limbo
No thrill nor zeal, no quest nor appeal
Just a plain feckless limbo
And its ponderous sense of routine

Want a life without fervour?
Want a life without zest nor savour
It abounds only in limbo
Where ones incline is dreamy langour

it often feels safer to be there...not having to make decisions in life...but no, you are right...that just isn't living at all..

we need to embrace danger and joy...go for life.

third stanza, first line...i read as "It's somewhere"

and i love the last line...so cool...but it should be "one's incline"

but a very persuasive poem provoking the reader to get out and live....standing still does nothing for us.

a good write.

You're describing my life here! *smile* This is a very original message, which I both agree with and disagree with. Mostly, it's a great write becuz of all the ways you playfully (not too judgmentally) describe "limbo" . . . especially love these: "whatever will be will be they croon in careless limbo" . . . and "just a plain feckless limbo and its ponderous sense of routine."

Maybe you're not old enuf to appreciate "limbo" after a long life lived chasing vigorously after WHATEVER. I agree that "limbo" is not a good place for someone starting out or early in life, but it can be a great place to relax & spend our waning years. Being in "limbo" is the main reason I'm able to write with complete lack of inhibition finally. Screw all life's expectations. I am what I am.

I really felt this one because I know this state all too well. It's a dangerous place to be and yet it's comfortable. A well written piece Anima.
