Just an old poem I found on my laptop.

Corporate Cocoon

Midst the mantras of mankind

Midst the buds and blossoms blooming

And the people left behind

And the airy mass a-looming

Where the men decidedly dote

Where the winds do blow and play,

Upon the laws they carefully wrote

Reach out to take me away!

I shall take my very first steps

I shall steel myself from crawling

Take this path with no regrets!

And leap out to find my calling!

My ideas will come to fruition

In the sky I find my soul

My career is my new mission!

To be free is my ultimate role!

My prestige grows ever greater

Above the trees I see all things

My power is my creator

I feel my heavy beating wings

I’m filled with ministerial might

Below, a heliotrope delight

I’ve got my greatest goal in sight!

Above, a wondrous ball of light!

Author's Note

Brent
I'd like to point out that this isn't a happy poem. There's the key, implied analogy to a moth present here that entirely changes the meaning and mood of the poem (from hopeful to a more dreary poem of fate). (A moth is fated to fly towards the "wondrous ball of light", controlled by some primal instinct to reach it, just as the speaker is fated to a life controlled by his boss, the judiciary system, society, politics, God, etc., even if there is a false hope of liberty and identity.) The happy tone, idea of freedom, and the idea of finding yourself are meant to be ironic. I felt that this was important to notice in determining the true, intended meaning of the poem.
