I Grew Up.

I Grew Up.

A Poem by Alexis Cook
"

A quick poem I wrote at one in the morning,

"
I grew up thinking all parents fight at 11 o'clock at night in hushed whispers while you listened in.
I grew up thinking all little girls frown at they’re reflections in spite, no matter how beautiful.
I grew up thinking all fifth graders thought that I, a third grader, was pregnant.
I grew up thinking no, I don’t know the gender.
I grew up thinking they aren’t laughing at me they’re laughing with me.
I grew up knowing that was wrong.
I grew up thinking that everyone goes threw the emo seventh grade phase,
and I grew up to know that that seventh grade phase didn’t involve blades for everyone.
I grew up with my mom and dad not knowing how scared I was of school.
I grew up on A.D.D. pills and lexapro.
I grew up crying to my therapist about how I thought about killing myself again.
I grew up healthy as an overweight 15 year old with depression and anxiety could be.
And I hope that when they find out what they put me through,
They grow up.
