Thank you for staring.

Thank you for staring.

A Poem by johnnyqueer

Glass pane glances back at me,
Precise lines grace porcelain paint.
Eyes close as I release and exhale,
One step closer to bizarre.

Brush and blend until polished,
Search the canvas for imperfections.
The reflective glass reminds me...
Flawed is all I'll ever be.

Jagged words never penetrate,
My skin is too thick from foundation.
Smile back at myself for a while,
Before painting on my lips.

My confidence sky rockets
When I make people wonder...
'Mommy, is that a boy'?
Intoxicated by nasty glances.

Yes. Yes, I am...
Thank you for staring,
Your disgust made me smile.
Let me do your makeup?...

Everyone stares at you. I can't imagine how painful those stares must really be! I mean, damn!! We all have tough times . . . but I've seen gaybashers when they're out on the hunt for someone to beat and kill, and it ain't a laughing matter when you stare back at the stares of hate and disgust glaring at you. You've had it rougher than most people want to imagine . . .
For what it's worth, the only stare you'll get from me is one of respect.
I seriously do respect and honor you :)

Johnny you are a wizard with words my friend. Though I myself don't wear makeup, I do wear masks and I find that sometimes I wonder If they are nothing more than makeup to cover my flaws. I am not saying that you are flawed and am sorry if you feel that you are but to me you are a human being and deserve to be treated as such. Great write from a masters pen.

This is fabulous!! I love the wording and the messages within. I have song that I wrote over the weekend that touches on the same subject. One of lines read as such. "So go ahead and stare. Stare till your eyes burn out." I love this poem Johnny. Thanks for sharing your art with us.

You know, Johnny, I can always relate so much to your words. Makeup can be a mask at times, no? It is there to attract to what we want others to see and to detract from what we want to hide. You are beautiful, my friend, no makeup required.

Working at a school for years I have seen this happen so often. People's judgements are their own burden to carry.. because your free in your self expression in body, mind and spirit and that's what counts.. :) Spread the wealth of you is what I say :) xo
