Oh Hush, my Head!

Oh Hush, my Head!

A Poem by Alice Patinkin

Repetition is a sin,
Though I know not where,
Or just how to begin.

Nothing is easy,
Or so the sparrow told,
But I'd like to be young
Before I get old.

My heart is the size
Of a warm summer sky,
But the earth weighs me down,
My body tells me I can't fly.

My lungs fill with cries
That never reach the air,
And my feet are full of steps
That never take me anywhere.

Oh hush, my head!
I must think back to you;
Back to moonlit inspiration,
And everything that is true.

See, the future hangs and glistens
Like a bauble on my wall,
And I know that I must take the chance;
To fly or to fall.

The rhythmic pattern is off, I know.

Nevertheless, comments and critiques are appreciated.
