I Know You Don't

I Know You Don't

A Poem by AliciaB
"

These are technically song lyrics, although they work pretty well as a poem too.

"

I know every one of you,

The stories of your lives.

I know your hopes and doubts and fears,

The goals for which you strive.

And I know every road you’ll take,

And where each ending lies.

And I know you don’t.

I know that you’re the one who dared

To follow faithfully.

I know, when you’re scared, that you

Will turn your back on Me.

And I know, in the end, that you

Will give your life for Me.

And I know you don’t.

I’ve known the thought that’s tempting you

Since first I called your name.

I know that you’re attempting to

Make profit from My pain.

I know the price of your regret

Will far outweigh the gain.

And I know you don’t.

I see the grief and weariness

Upon your sleeping face.

I know the pain of humanness

As I am in this place.

I know the wounds of agony

This blood of Mine will trace.

And I know you don’t.

I know that you do not believe

Their hatred and their lies.

I know the truth within your heart;

I see it in your eyes.

And I know, though you wash your hands,

The stain will still reside.

And I know you don’t.

I know that you’ve been taught to tear

My flesh down to the bone.

I’ve known the nights you’re torn apart

From feeling all alone.

I feel the breaking of your heart

As if it were My own.

And I know you don’t.

I know how many fearful souls

Beneath your hands have lain.

I know that you have steeled your heart

Against My screams of pain.

And I know every speck of dust

Each drop of blood has stained.

And I know you don’t.

Father, please forgive them, for

They know not what they do.

So many times I’ve wished that they’d

Come running home to You.

And you who’ve done this, can’t you see,

I’m hanging here for you?

Goodbye!

GOODBYE!

I know that you will stand by Me

Until the bitter end!

I know that you will weep for Me,

Your teacher and your friend!

And I know it’s not over now,

That I’ll see you again!

But I know you don’t!

Yeah, I know you don’t!

I know that you are saved, but I,

I know

you

don’t.

Painful, reminds me of Jesus's unforgettable words on the cross... It does sound like a song although I was not sure who was talking/singing it, but then I found that it is Jesus who was speaking throughout the poem... I'm always a fan of this kind of poem, because it fills my, it reminds of the sacrifices he made for each one of us on the cross... There is a melancholic strain in the poem and your use of "Goodbye goodbye" really struck me... This is really something amazing, the wording and the concept was very unique and I believe you did a brilliant job to convey a message through this poem/song... God bless you frnd....

Sincerely with love,

Thank you so much!
Whilst there are parts where I'm not quite sure who's talking (I think Jesus for most of it but at times I'm like 'who what now?'), I still can't deny that I love this poem. Jeez girl, every single one of them! You have to have a bad one somewhere :p

The rhythm and structure in this poem is practically perfect. There are some lines composed so beautiful, the rhyme added so effortlessly that I don't even care that I somethings get lost.
From "I know that you've been taught to tear" to "as if it were my own", I am simply overwhelmed. This is flawless, and I'm quite happy to read t again and again and just let it flow over me. Similarly, the lines "I know that you will stand by me" to "your teacher and your friend!" follows that same effortless, smooth pattern and I just love it. You've done Good Friday proud!

Quite the song Alicia..... Not sure what to begin with.... I must say you try to explore darkness too much. ( OK not the best guy to state this comment as I tend to do the same) But I like this, and honestly even if you had not mentioned this to be a song I could not have taken it any other way, the way you have maintained the rhythm throughout is amazing and I love the fact that you haven't used words that don't roll of from the mouth easily, the song is always about the flow and how easily one can hum. For me this one had varied transitions as far as how the tempo changes as the song proceeds. Good imagery invoked as well ^^ I liked it a lot even though it sounded rather dark and poignant to me (considering what this is about) but then again melancholy has it's own beauty. Thank you for sharing ^^

Btw Happy Easter (or belated)!!!
