Strength to Love

Strength to Love

A Poem by Ammy Greaves

We were warned,
Yes, we warned.
"You're young you don't know what it means."
Truly, we are completely clueless of what it means
But damn haven't I learnt.

To love is more than to feel it or say it
There's more to care and hope there's patience beyond your limit
On the edge but not falling off
Willing to learn and unlearn
Give up and let go
Going against what you may know

More than words
You got to mean it,
You gotta love him, you gotta feel it
Through all his flaws and disappointments,
You gotta love
Through all the stress and bends of time,
You gotta love
Through all the hurts and cries,
You gotta love
Through all the hurtful words said,
You gotta love

What we are really to young to understand
Is that it takes strength
It takes strength to love
It takes not giving up

Oh baby, through our time of knowing each other
I've learnt along the way, baby it takes strength to love you
But I find it some how, everyday
You give it to me, though you may sometimes take it away

It takes strength to love you,
And along the way,
I've gained the strength everyday

It takes strength to love
If I have to steal from Almighty God in some way,
I'll find the strength to say,
I Love You, Baby, everyday...

This was a very honest poem was well. Love does hurt sometimes and relationships do fall apart. But eventually you find someone that will replace the lost love. And sometimes we don't know what love is. Thank you for sharing.

This poem is very honest in the small truths it gives... I especially love the image of "being on the edge but not falling off." A very strong portrayal of a relationship and the way it impacts both those involved and outside of that connection.
