The Long Road Home!

The Long Road Home!

A Poem by Arielle Ann

Thither was the maze unfolded across me,

And hither I stood, set to discern my destiny,

Insofar obscure to the naked eye,

Shielded from an outlander, as innocent as I!

Excited I was to seek anew,

Promises afresh, hope yet raw, laid down to view.

Impatient to unfurl the mysteries that would dawn,

Stepped I through the fence into an enigma unknown!

A mesh of lanes, with a turn at each end,

Inconceivable was the core that lay beyond,

Unless you in person embarked to witness the covert abode!

Nonetheless the beauty in those blossoms seized my gaze,

Unworthy was my fear; why so sheltered was this maze!

Through the winding lanes, I raced careless,

In ecstasy was I;

The woods so green, and me growing breathless!

Hitherto then, as I touched a certain twist,

Fourteenth, fifteenth???

Now unable to retrieve those echoes that were then unforeseen!

I realized the foliage thinning, giving away to merciless thorns,

The pathways now materializing into beds, with prickles to adorn.

Perturbed by the curses and vexes was I,

Dropped by those “elves??” so evil, harboring in so dark, the sky!

Still with the zeal to reach my haven,

Unheeding to the elusive verses, and with fervor unshaken,

I struggled and staggered upto the eighteenth road,

Perplexed; could this be my heavenly abode?

Lingering by the gateway, a hermit with promises at bay,

Beseeching me to trust, to follow his way,

Ignorant to the sedition, I trailed him on,

Adhering to his counsel, unaware of the storm to befall!

Oh;

What were these shackles that binded me so tight?

Mirthless laughter erupting from his lips at my plight!

Recognized I the demon in disguise,

The blessings of the Mother, I could once shun his eyes!

The journey unending, wasn’t this over the twentieth turn?

Where was my harbor that once I had yearned?

A solitary loner and disheartened a soul,

Shaky steps, averse to the woods so bestial and foul!

And then;

Blinded by the darkness, I tripped and fell,

In a pit bottomless, akin to dreadful hell!

Discarding all hopes to unfurl my way,

Settled I to wither and perish where I lay.

However,

The sky burnishes blue, one radiant morn,

The son of the virgin, with his arms ushers me above,

Hauling me upright with faith yet reborn!

Steadying I my feet, resolve I to turn,

And view the scene thereafter, those glorious ferns!

Oh yes; is this my lane?

Twenty third I recall, with my thoughts still sane!!

With my steps now measured and eyes that are closed,

Averse to open, for the worse to disclose!

Lo and behold!

Is not that an angel seated by the side?

Ushering to me with arms held wide!

But my pace now dubious, I trod forward to him,

Clasps he my palms, fondling me whole in his hug so soft,

Sheltered I am in the heavenly cove,

Stand we by the

edge, onlooking the valley carpeted across,

My abode is hither, with the luminous hue glistening to the at last subduing frost!!!

A brilliant piece of work Anisha...I like the traditional rhyming patterns and the aura of the supernatural that you give to this poem...Just a request...Could you just increase the font size..Reading it in the same font size with words in italics makes it a difficult proposition...

Oh wow, this is just...amazing. I've never really read anything quite like this. Perhaps because I don't read much poetry but even so, this is outstanding work. Word choice, the flow of it, very good. It was like simultaneous reading and experiencing a dream, if that makes any sense, but that's the first thing that comes to mind. Really makes me want to try a lot harder with my writing. This is something I can definitely aim towards. Thank you.
