A Poem by Tristessa

We tossed off our inhibitions
like wet towels on a floor

and we jumped.

we jumped into a place
where the crimes
were not freedom to express

where
skateboards
krylon
drugs
love
weren't shoved underground
for the punks
the vandals
the junkies
and the sickhearted
exclusively.

We found objectivity
in the sense of 'being wrong'

we found just "being"

where no matter the age
if you wanted to be in love
then you did

if those bongs and blunts
made you feel like a god
then everyone?
begin to bow.

Our clothes didn't matter.
Our smiles didn't matter.

Only we did.

Just us.

only WE mattered.

We jumped into this world
expecting to find gold
or zombie mutants
like we talked about

but instead

and we came out
with a sense of hope

which is almost
just as good.
