Gravity is Optional

Gravity is Optional

~

A meadow of fireflies
On a clear summer night
Flirting shameless with stars
Splendid magic in sight

Dragonflies racing
Blazing orange comet trails
Painting dark skies
With their tangerine sails

A caterpillar rests
In a coffin cocoon
Bids farewell to the earth
To be born again soon

Taking its place
Way up in the sky
Where gravity is optional
And to be free is to die

My thanks to you and DJ. :)
Out of all the poems of yours I've read so far, this is the best! Freaking wow! Every line packs a good punch, but the ending is absolutely golden! Well freaking done!

A pleasure, one that is all mine.
Beautiful write. I love the imagery with the fireflies, and the wording throughout is fantastic. That last stanza may be my favorite.

Was going to comment on how I really enjoyed these lines, but after reading it in full it is very difficult to choose just one thing to praise. This is a fantastic write. The bit about the caterpillar too - truly stimulating.

Thanks a bunch my friend. I'm glad you like it, truly appreciate the time you make for me. :)
Okay, definitely gonna try leaving a review that doesn't use the words fantastic, beautiful or softness, even though this is fantastically beautiful and soft.....Oh ploppers and flip. Well, maybe next time I'll think of something original to say :)
We don't get fireflies over here, mores the pity, but I did see them on my first trip to the states and could have watched them all night. Funny how we see insects as pests, unless they have superpowers like built in lighting. Maybe they are pests too, but awesome looking pests. :)
This is definitely a happy thought, feel good poem to me, because it reminds me how much time I spend gazing out my kitchen window, watching the world go by and nature put on it's magic show. Feels like you must spend a lot of time rubbing nose smudges off the window panes too :)
