if I built a fort

if I built a fort

A Chapter by Ana Papaya

~

If I built a fort
beneath a pile of blankets
strung little white lights to hang from the ceiling
and laid a bed for you and I
could we pretend to make love
beneath a starry sky
     could we make love
     and not pretend
would you tell me that you love me
and then want me again.

There is a magical fantasy to this one....and a harsh reality of someone you love not loving you back. A fun write on the outside yet between the lines, well, there are tears. Heartfelt. Lydi**

Thank you for reading between the lines :)
I really love the way you get an emotional response with such playful writing. It's a skill, you know, to convey a feeling of total loss and loneliness in such playful lyrics. Who hasn't dreamed of making love under a starry sky, and who hasn't daydreamed about your scene...awesome.

thank you so much James, I very much appreciate that. :)
This is so cute, my stupid smile won't go away. Just the right blend of innocent and naughty. Being still in touch with my inner youngster, I thought the voice was directed at me.

Samuel, thank you so much for the nice comment. :)
I'm glad it spoke to you.
Ana Papaya
met a cool guy-a
Who she thought
Looked pretty darn hot
They built a treehouse
A he and she house
Down on a spot
On a treed corner lot

But this cool guy-er
Was a practicing vampire
Who thought he’d apply er
To his dining menu

Her thought her
Name was so neat
That she would be
Perfectly tasty to eat

But the end of this fable
Did not end on the table
Because Ana Papaya
Said ,
Oh no, good bye-ya
As she displayed
Two extremely fleet feet

It's the name!!!

haha
good-bye-a
You create a feeling of much longing in these lines Ana. There is a sadness woven into the main thread here.

Thanks a bunch for your words Chris. :)
Mmmm the wish to hold on ...nicely conveyed...
Some people fall out of love and the one who remains it's hard for them... beautifully done..
Never built a fort with blankets ....but many a times in my head...with words...:)

Gee
Yes :))

That's sad, a sad reality for many folk who cling onto love long after it has died inside the other half being used until the greener grass is found.

what a wonderful way of looking at it :)
thank you
Sometimes that's the problem.
Life becomes a fortress.
There's no escape.
Some just can't be caged.

So true, thank you for the comment Paul.
This has such bittersweet beauty to it Ana. In my mind, the fort and lights play out a memory of being with them under the night sky, sharing just being and wishing to replay the memory one more time on the jukebox.
Now I wanna go build a fort :)
