"Evening Steps..."

"Evening Steps..."

A Poem by Chris

"Evening Steps..."

Think of our silhouettes against the sun...

and the lengthening shadows.

A hell-of-a-pair

walking/shuffling the berm,

edges, barest tracks of existence...

I can 'see' the thoughts

as they flow...

...sense the steps

the movings...

the 'feel' of the jeans

as I stride, the boots -

soles molding to the uneven surface -

the way the shirt rustles -

the pressure of the backpack,

the hanging straps of the 'possibles' bag

as it drapes my shoulder.

The sure tap-tapping of the walking stick...

finding its way.  Finding My ways...

finding tomorrows, yesterdays, nevermores -

silly-lost-me's fallen by the way-sides-

paths to be forgotten as neverweres.

I feel the comfort of the leather strips

I made and put in place as its grasp...

the maple shaft - its temper and the smoothness.
The solid "Tunk" as it seats in the fallow grit,

the feel of each footfall as I move along.

I'm still warbling it in my mind...

tasting the flow

feeling each ...ache

as the eyes water a bit

with each glance

...each step

...each bit of us left behind

...each breath taken

- every breath held...

the sound of the wind

the 'feel' of sunset.

And in the shimmer at the edges of my world
I know you're there...

right ... there
moving beside me,

our paths separate yet shared -

our footfalls mingled

the timings a sweet smile,

pauses - our breaths held as

magyk shares what we always knew

...echoes of we - fading in our -

distance.

Chris I read and I remember so much of you.. Of each word you shared with me in a poem or in a personal moment of wisdom... Your words never came up short or ceased to amaze me.. and still i find myself in tears ...The way you construct a piece of writing, each time I read of you its like you have built a temple... painted a masterpiece with your words.. Oh, but if I could just reach half the hearts you touch....my journy might feel worthwhile...
always here, always your friend... shall

Beautiful - the image of loved ones continuing to walk along side us as they always have.

When tears cease .. and I exhale .. I will return and read again, your tender world .. ..
Chris I have read over two hundred of you poems , and each did touch places of the heart .. but these "Evening Steps" left me in tears , and for me , this is
"Your Best" ..
Thank you once more for the gift of YOU ...

I particualarly related to the last two stanzas.
'And in the shimmers at the edges of my world, I know you're there' and then you go on to re-affirm it 'right...there' I feel this, love it. Passion. :)
Enjoyed this x

so beautifully written.. we never really leave anyone that has walked very far with us.. and they never really leave us.. I find that to be a comfort..
