"Breakfast..."

"Breakfast..."

A Poem by Chris
"

I paused with Ed Hart's "DNA" - thought a bit - spoke up - and damn but he got me good... I just wanted to let him know....

"

"Breakfast..."

There are times

I set my ole' tin cup out for you

- they call it pewter but we know better,

you and I -

- right there, on the table,

even set an old silver spoon

long set-less and with its stupid-mean-nothing monogram

waiting for fingers to mean something

to have purpose - if only for a moment ...again.

I seem to stare at the empty chairs

more often somehow -

sometimes meaning to

  other times really not.

trying to remember ...nothing at all

and everything after all.

We do that

   sometimes,

even in the mornings...

Chris

I have now re-read this 3 times and it changes meaning and I have noticed different things each time...I'm incapable of properly analysing it but even so, it created a very clear image in my head and I enjoy your work very much as it has the best authorial voice I have heard in a long while...a great little piece x

I'm not sure why... but this gave me shivers.

Looks like you laid the intellectual smackdown on Ed, that is a championship match I would pay to see.

I love the way this piece feels. The cup and the spoon with monogram, no longer in a set...I have a few of those, too. It speaks to me and I find myself feeling as if I am sitting at that table hearing your thoughts.
