"Take Two Aspirin And..."

"Take Two Aspirin And..."

A Poem by Chris
"

Was once a sort of standing joke of a CALLED Doctor at midnight saying "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." for damn near anything that bothered someone.

"

“Take Two Aspirin And…”

At times I miss you terribly,

at times I remember when I didn't -

and please understand,

I'm happier now because I do.

Having had to remember how to breathe

doesn't make it hurt less… but…

at least now

the pain makes sense …ya see?

Chris

Was once a sort of standing joke of a CALLED Doctor at midnight saying "Take two aspirin and call me in the morning." for damn near anything that bothered someone.  Hence the title.

If you imagine yourself sitting on a stonework wall - say at midnight... thinking.  OR Perhaps a pew in a church, a memorial.  OR laying in your bed at 3 AM.  OR at a wake.  Or any of 100's of other places, times.

"…At times I miss you terribly, …" - the world's a cold and darker place with you not here.

"…at times I remember when I didn't - …" - I can still remember how I was, hell - how LIFE was, before we met - empty, silent, lifeless.

"...and please understand,..."  - Sometimes we do speak to our memories - when they matter or are that REAL to us.

"...I'm happier now because I do. ..." -  You made everything ...better, brighter... you just made everything...

Sometimes

...we just whisper and

the wind carries us away -

Gawd alone knows where.

And somedays we might awaken

to sunlight and the taste of lips

softly touching ...ours -

tomorrows to share and live;

and somedays

we might not want to awaken any more -

our bare lips and the cold exhales,

darkened skies and empty hands…

all the silence inside.

Life happens…

people touch us - deeply

and the shadows grow

longer and longer

as the footsteps go silent

and the world doesn’t pause

or leave a tear to show

we were.

no need to apologize... I'm glad you paused. Maybe you'll find your way back sometime.
I read this yesterday and sat with it for a while... and I came back today to read again. This speaks to the reality of life, memories churning, love rolling in waves, life moving and pausing. Excellent pace and flow to your thoughts shared... saving to read again another time :)

No one may remember the sound of my voice
No one may recall me holding their hand
A child, no longer a child, may forget about then..
People will laugh and sing and play, just the same
If I don't wake.. Tomorrow
So in this NOW I own.. although alone
I shall bask in the joy.. of simply being..

Love is everything .. even if it exist in our memories alone..

me.

Life...continues...no pause really...only the pause we make ourselves. The title befits the prose so nicely...sometimes we don't want to wait until morning to be seen or heard or told things are alright. Seeing this grow this way is like life itself...another chapter recorded but who do we sing it to?

This is wonderful writing...thoughtful and held in the throes of the one thing that does rule us all...life! Beautiful work xx

Your welcome Chris
I am back after reading your added notes and thank you for clarifying your intentions of "Take two aspirin and......."! It means even more to me now as I know how much this relationship meant to you.

The additional verses are filled with sentiment that touch me even more! Life goes on, people come and go, and as we live another day the shadows grow longer until the footsteps go silent. When this happens, at least we will have known that perhaps our departure shall not be noticed, but we will have had the pleasure of that special love. No one can take that away!

how we search for a reason for the pain we dwell upon, and when we find the cause, we feel relief, for its not a mystery any longer, but perhaps some wish not to know the reason and have to face pain daily because of the bitterness they hold, and the fear that keeps them from finding the reason of their pain. The truth hurts, we know, so why want it? at the same time, if we do not have the truth, will we elapse into a sulking, miserable soul....?
Either way, I enjoyed this poem, it was very thought provoking...
