"Miles To Go Before I Sleep..."  *

Within our homes,

within our hearts - lives...

we keep a place for footwear.

Shoes - pride-full, leathers soft and glow-warm

  life-aged, time - worn
  buffed to glisten
chafed with the touch of existence

soles marred as our souls are borne.

Sandals - to fit the work or talk

cushions to bear the effort of our walk
gnarled by stones, pavement, burdens, tomes.

Slippers - for being home

special softnesses for the moments when
we pause in our living, our being whom we must.

and then the boots - for some they are work boots
for some - Combat Boots

for some they are all the same words

Combat - work - helping - living - dying ...being.

Walking in our shoes

we are fishers-of-men
and children of the lesser God
whose words we wish we kept

...within.

Chris

First off...Frost's poem has always been a favorite. I thought this was such a unique view of something we take for granted. I always enjoy your perspective. I enjoyed this.

"chafed with the touch of existence
soles marred as our souls are borne."

Life teaches us many things as we travel this road. Love the lines above...
sometimes we run across a path that brings a smile or two along the way.

.. And if these soles could speak, would there be complaints , or praise ..

You little thought provoker You .. Think I'm walking on re-treads .. hope I

have many miles to go .. before I sleep ..

Interesting piece. Not sure it quite fulfills my personal tastes, but still very good.

"soles marred as our souls are borne."
Beautifully expressed, and than the different footwear.
I like to walk barefoot though. ;)

A free verse about footwear. Who would of thought it? Well done...well done.

We all wear different hats at times... and different coats, to make us into something or someone else at the time.
Shoes do the same. All in all, we are who we are, when we have to be.
Thus say the "rainbow" flip flops I wear almost exclusively these days.

Will keep the last thought closer than most, because it really is a very good thought... as your poems always point out to us.
Thank you for another privilege to read.

Oh if those shoes could only talk..but it seems they did !
Just a personal preference.. no slippers..just socks..I like barefoot best..
