pain we don't know we cause

One day a girl, named Samantha Robinson, gets emotionally abused by her boyfriend and she doesn't tell him that she is pregnant and that he is the father.....2 years later the boy finds out the girl was pregnant and says "why didn’t you tell me you were pregnant!!"

"I don’t know" the girl said.

"If you won’t be honest to me than we shouldn't be together" the boy said as he walks away.

"I was afraid of what you would think and say" said the girl with tears in her eyes. As it was too late because the boy had made up his mind about where their relationship has ended.

As the Samantha was walking home, feeling like her heart has been ripped out of her chest; she thinks "what is there in this cold dark world that I can no longer be loved."

As Samantha gets home she picks up her baby, named Sarah, and remembers that her parents left for the week and that there is still a car in the garage. So she decides to drive around town, so she puts Sarah in the car seat and she drives around town to make and attempt to ease her troubled mind but realizes she cannot get her mind off of the man who now shuns her. So she drives back home, pulls the car into the garage and closes the garage door with the car still running.

Then she climbs into the back seat of the car and cradles her baby for what she thinks will be the last day they will spend together.

She had forgotten that she was going to study for a test with a friend that day, named John Mathews. As she had climbed into the backseat of the car John had arrived and heard the car running in the garage. So he went into the house and walked to the door leading to the garage. As he goes through the door he finds Samantha and Sarah unconscious in the car so he rushes to the car to shut it off and opens the garage door to let the hazardous fumes escape the garage. Then he reached into the backseat and pulled Samantha and Sarah out and brought them outside into the fresh air and then calls the paramedics. As John gets off of the phone he sits down next to Samantha and tries to comfort her and Sarah.

Just before the paramedics arrive Sarah starts to show signs of life and begins to cry so John holds her and tries to calm her down. Five minutes later the paramedics arrive and check Sarah and say that she will be fine. Then they put Samantha in the back of the ambulance and take her to the nearest hospital as fast as possible because the EMT said she was in very bad condition. Then John walks across town to the hospital and goes into the waiting room and asks “can I see Samantha Robinson please?” The nurse at the front desk asks “who are you in relation to the patient?”

“I am a friend but I just want to see if she is alright” John replies.

The nurse looks at John with an annoyed look in her eyes and says “she is in room six, I will buzz you in.”

The nurse hits a button on the desk and the door buzzes and opens up to expose a long hallway that was dim except for the end that was very bright. To John it looks like the tunnel you would see if you were dying and at the end was heaven. As John was walking down the hallway he could hear some people screaming in pain and could see others bleeding. Then as John reached the end of the hall he didn’t see heaven but he saw people in white coats running around like there was a fire somewhere and that they were looking for it.

As John exits the hallway he looks at the top of one door and sees the number two. So he looks around the room and sees the numbers three, four, five, and one but no number six. So he asks a nurse “can you direct me towards room number six please.”

The nurse replies “room number six is the I.C.U. why do you want that room?”

“Is that the room Samantha Robinson is in?” asked John.

“Yes but may I ask why?” the nurse replied.

John replies “it is because she is my friend and I am worried about her.”

“Oh ok that’s nice of you to come see her and room six is through that door over there.” The nurse says pointing at a door on the other side of the mad crowd of people that keep running back and forth from room to room.

“Thank you.” John says as he tries to make his way through the crowd of people.

As he gets into the crowd of people John holds Sarah close to protect her from getting hit by people running by. As he gets out of the other side of the crowd he checks to see if Sarah is alright first before moving on through the door. As he sees that Sarah is surprisingly still asleep he opens the door and walks through it entering another hallway but this hallway was different. To John it seemed like he was walking through a tunnel where people could watch you and see what you were doing. The hallway was made of large glass walls that you could look through and see who was sick or severely injured.

As he walks down the hall he sees Samantha lying in a bed with a doctor standing just outside the door. As John stops and looks in the doctor looks at john and asks “are you John Mathews?”

John looks at the doctor with a shocked look on his face and says “yes but how do you know my name?”

The doctor replies saying “before we put her in a chemically administered comma, Samantha said you and Sarah might be coming but I suppose the little one is Sarah.”

“Yes, she is Samantha’s daughter.” John said

The doctor replies “oh it doesn’t say in her medical records that she was ever pregnant.”

“Ya it was unexpected but she doesn’t care she still loves her.” John said with a smile as he looks at Sarah sleeping in his arms.

Just then the doctor gets a call about someone who suddenly lost all signs of life and so he runs off to see what he can do about that. Then John finds a chair and sits down and tries to keep Sarah from getting upset. Then John looks at a clock and it says that it is seven o’clock and the doctor comes back and says “if you want to go home and get some sleep for school tomorrow and I can call you if anything changes in her situation.”

“That would be nice and thank you for keeping me in the loop.” John replied.

The doctor smiles and says “no problem but if I can’t get a hold of you I will have one of the nurses give you a call about her situation.”

“Oh ok that’s fine thanks again.” John says as he walks down the hall way towards the door.

Later that night when John gets home he tells his mom that they will be taking care of Samantha’s daughter for a while. Then his mother walks out of the kitchen and says “ok how old is she?”

“She is two years old.” John says holding Sarah

John’s mother looks at Sarah and asks “why are we taking care of her and not Samantha’s parents?”

“Her parents are out of town for this week.” John replies.

Then he hands Sarah to his mother and goes to his room to do his homework and to get some sleep.

The next day after school John sees Samantha’s now Ex-boyfriend Alex and confronts him saying “What the hell is wrong with you?”

Alex replies “what are you talking about you freak?”

“How could you leave Samantha to raise the daughter you helped create?” John replied.

Alex responds “she never told me that she was pregnant.”

“You could have asked if anything was wrong when she didn’t show up to school for a couple months.” John replied.

“I could have but she didn’t have her phone on her those months.” Alex said.

“She was probably waiting for you to show up in person to ask but I guess you’re too big of a coward to do that for the person you love.” John responds but gets cut off by Alex interrupting, “don’t go calling me a coward just because I broke up with her.”

Then John interrupts Alex saying “well because you broke up with her now she is in the hospital in a comma.”

Then Alex is silent for a moment but then starts to chuckle saying “she deserves to be in the hospital because she isn’t happy anywhere else.”

John punches Alex in the face and looks at him as he is on the ground and says angrily “if you say anything like that about her again it won’t just be my fist that hits your face.” Then he turns and walks towards home but suddenly his phone starts to ring and he looks at it and it is the hospitals number. As he answers his phone the person on the other end of the phone call was the doctor from before. As John answers his phone the doctor tells him that he has good news and he needed to tell him in person.

As John gets home he grabs Sarah and tells his mother he is going to go to the hospital and that he was bringing Sarah with. As he is walking down the street he notices he is being followed and so he picks up his walking pace. Another couple of blocks later he realizes that the person is still following him. When John looks down the road he can see the hospital but he can still hear the person behind him getting closer with each step. As he reaches the hospital he turns around to see that the person has vanished into thin air.

As John enters the hospital the doctor is there to meet him in the waiting room. When the doctor sees him he says “I have very good news for you.”

“What is the good news?” asked John.

The doctor replies “we can pull Samantha out of the comma now and I wanted you here when she wakes up.”

John smiles and says “that’s good and thank you for letting me be here when she wakes up.”

Then the doctor guides him to the new room that Samantha is in and then john goes to Samantha’s bedside and then the doctor adds a chemical to bring Samantha out of the comma. Then the doctor says “the chemical might not take effect right away so it might take a half hour till she wakes up so just relax.”

“Ok and thanks again.”John replies.

The doctor smiles and steps out of the room. Then John sits in a chair comforting Sarah. Then the doctor walks back into the room and says “it has been half an hour” as John is looking at the clock in the room. Just then Samantha begins to move and open her eyes.

The doctor asks “how do you feel Samantha?”

Samantha replies very quietly “I feel sleepy.”

“Ya that will happen when you come out of a comma, but you have a couple guests.” The doctor said.

Then Samantha looks around the room and sees John and Sarah sitting at her bedside. Then Samantha says “hi John what are you doing here?”

John replies “I was worried about you I wanted to see if you and Sarah were safe.”

Samantha smiles and blushes then she can see Sarah sleeping in John’s arms and giggles. John smiles and hands Sarah to Samantha so she can hold her own daughter. As Samantha is holding Sarah she looks at John and asks “why are you really here is it to drop off my daughter and then leave?”

John replies “no it’s because I have feelings for you that are kind of hard to explain.”

Samantha looks John in the eyes and sees that he is telling the truth and says “I know how you feel because I have those same emotions when I’m around you but I guess it took this event in my life to realize that those feelings were towards you.”

John smiles and slides to the edge his seat to get somewhat closer to Samantha. Then Samantha looks at Sarah and says “I always told myself that I would have an unexpected child one day but I didn’t think it was going to be two years ago.”

John looks at Samantha and says “some of the best things in life are unexpected.”

Samantha smiles saying “yes they are.”

Then she looks at John and says “this is going to be awkward but I want to be with you and I want your help raising Sarah even though you are not her real father.”

John takes Samantha’s hand then looks into her eyes and says “I would be honored and I would do anything for you.”

A couple days pass and Samantha is released from the hospital and John is there to walk her home. As they leave the hospital Samantha is holding Sarah and John is walking beside her. As they get three blocks away from the hospital John realizes that the person that was following him a couple days ago was back. So John tells Samantha to walk a little faster because there is someone following them. Then they get to Samantha’s house and John says he is going to confront the person that was following them. Just then the person that was following them walks by but on the other side of the street.

Samantha looks at John and says “don’t get yourself hurt please.”

John looks at Samantha and says “don’t worry I will be safe.”

Samantha says “ok” as she walks inside with Sarah she says “good night I will see you tomorrow at school.”

John replies “Ya good night sleep well.”

Then Samantha shuts the door and goes to bed. As John walks down the street and realizes that the person that was following them has returned and was standing at the end of the block waiting for something or someone. So John decides to take the long way home. As he gets to his front door he turns around to see nobody behind him so he walks inside and goes to bed.

The next day John wakes up to his phone receiving a text message so he grabs his phone and looks at it. He notices it is a message from Samantha and as he is reading it his doorbell rings and so he puts down his phone and gets dressed and answers the door. As he opens the door the person at the door is Samantha. He looks and says “hi what’s up.”

Samantha smiles and says “I thought we could walk to school together since your mom is watching Sarah for me.”

“Sure let’s go.” John says smiling.

So Samantha and John walk to school but as they are walking they pass by a family that was getting their house foreclosed by the bank and that they had a five year old son and a one year old daughter and their daughter doesn’t have anything to stay warm through the cold night. John feels bad and walks over and gives them his jacket and offers if they want to they can spend the night at his house but they deny the offer to spend the night at his house and the man says that they will sleep at his parents’ house in Iowa. So John and Samantha continue walking to school.

Samantha looks at John and says “that was really nice of you to give them your jacket like that.”

“I felt like I needed to do that.” John says putting his arm around Samantha.

When John and Samantha get to school they are greeted by Alex at the front door.

“Hey Samantha can I talk to you for a second?” Alex says as Samantha and John walk through the door.

Samantha replies “no because there is nothing to talk about.”

"I am sorry for saying what I said; I should have asked you if everything was alright.” Alex says desperately.

“I’m sorry as well but I have moved on and you should to.” Samantha replies.

Alex looks at her and grabs her arm and says “I can’t move on that’s the thing.”

Then Samantha looks at John with an expression on her face that told him that she could use his help. So John walks up to Alex and grabs him by the bicep and drags him away from Samantha. Then John says “can’t you see you hurt her enough, so please just walk away because I don’t like to see Samantha hurting.”

Then Alex pushes John and says “I don’t care what you do or don’t like so touch me one more time and I will knock you out.”

“Ok then” John says walking away.

Then Alex runs up behind John and pushes him so he trips and falls over. Just then Samantha was about to walk to class then she heard someone start yelling “fight” from down the hall where John took Alex. So she starts walking down there and sees Alex punch John in the face and then kick him in the ribs over and over again. As this was happening the principal and a couple teachers came in to stop the fight between them. As the teachers were pulling Alex off of John he started screaming “you son of a b***h meet me after school we will finish this then.” Then John gets up as he is bleeding from his mouth and nose and says “sorry I didn’t try to start a fight” to Samantha as he walks by being escorted by the principal to the nurses office.

After lunch Samantha goes back to class and sees John sitting at his desk with his head down. So she goes over to him and asks “are you ok?”

John looks up at her and replies “Ya I am fine, why?”

“I just wondered because you looked really hurt.” Samantha says.

John picks his head up off of the desk “don’t worry it’s only a split lip nothing serious.”

Samantha smiles “ok as long as you are alright but are you going to meet with him after school.”

John looks at her and says “no because I don’t want to see you hurting because I got injured.”

“Ok that’s good.” Samantha says smiling.

After a couple classes school finally ends for the day and Samantha is sitting on the front steps of the school waiting for John when suddenly she sees a bunch of people crowd around in a giant circle. Then she notices four people carrying John out and throws him into the circle. So she runs over to the circle and attempts to get through the crowd of people. As she gets half way through she sees John and then she sees Alex with something in his hand. At first she thought it was some dirt but then Alex punched John in the face she realized that it was a pretty big rock. So she works harder to get through the crowd as fast as she can. As she breaks through the crowd she looks up and sees John bleeding from a cut on his face. Then she looks at Alex and sees a strange clip on the top of his pocket and wonders what it could be. When she sees it she thinks it is a pen or something that he just put in his pocket. Then she looks back at John and sees him start to fight back.

As the fight rolls on past five minutes she thinks Alex or John will just stop and walk away from the fight with nobody winning. Just then Alex pulls something out of his pocket that the clip is attached to and then she sees John’s reaction to the object that Alex had pulled out of his pocket. Then she heard someone in the crowd scream, like the scream you would hear in horror movies, and they yelled “knife.”

At that moment the crowd dispersed and vanished like the crowd was never there. Then Samantha yells “run John.” John looks at Samantha, nods his head and runs away but Alex begins to chase him. Little does Alex know that John is trying to get somewhere that would help him to evade Alex. So John decides to run straight towards the mall where there are big crowds of people that would yell and call security if they saw someone with a knife. So as John runs into the mall Alex thinks he can cut him off somewhere in the mall. Just as Alex enters the mall he notices John weaving his way through crowds of people and tries to follow him but just as he gets around the first group of people he hears someone yell “knife” so Alex panics and runs in the direction that John had ran. Just as someone had yelled “knife” John started to slow down to catch his breath then he hears a couple security guards run past him to arrest Alex but then he thinks he hears Alex running up behind him. So he turns around to see but it was someone with a baby stroller so he starts to walk towards an exit when he sees the crowd behind him start dispersing and then he sees Alex running through the parting crowd, like the parting the red sea, so he starts to run towards the nearest exit. As he runs out the door he sees a group of police officers waiting for someone to walk out of the mall matching the eyewitness description of the person with the knife. Then Alex burst through the doors and start running at John but John had gotten past the group of cops and Alex runs right into the police and he gets arrested for public endangerment, aggravated assault, and assault with a deadly weapon. As the police take Alex to jail John calls Samantha. Samantha answers her phone without any hesitation and the first thing she says is “are you ok.”

John replies “yes I am fine.”

Samantha smiles and says “that’s good because I don’t know what I would have done if you had gotten hurt.”

“Even if I did get hurt it takes a lot more than that to convince me not be with you because I don’t want to leave you because I love you.” John replies as he walks across the parking lot of the mall towards a sunset.

Samantha giggles and says “I love you too.”

“Hey do you want to go to the beach right now?” John asks.

Samantha replies a little confused “why?”

“Because it is a nice day and I was wondering if you wanted to watch the sun set tonight with me.” John responds.

Samantha already almost to the beach says “sure I would love to watch the sun set with you and I am almost at the beach now.”

“Cool I will be at the beach in a minute.” John replies happily.

As John arrives at the beach he looks around and doesn’t see Samantha but then she jumps on his back saying “surprise” and as she jumps on his back he falls forward into the sand. She starts to laugh and then she hears John start to laugh. Then John rolls over and Samantha falls over and then John lies down and looks towards the sky. Then Samantha sits up and lies down next to John and she puts her arms around him and he puts his arm around her. Then Samantha says “it’s cold out tonight.”

John looks at Samantha and grabs her jacket that she had taken off and he covered her up with it. Then John said “that looks cool doesn’t it.” As he points towards the sun set.

Samantha replies “yes it does, it’s beautiful.”

John looks at Samantha and says “not as beautiful as you.”

Samantha blushes and they watch the sun set behind some hills and houses and watch the town go from day life to night life. As the city begins to change to the night life and the sky start to dim Samantha starts to fall asleep in John’s arms so they decide to sleep on the beach together for the night. Then from that night on their lives have been changed for the better.
