Wolf 'N' Red

Wolf 'N' Red

A Poem by Angel Fell
"

A Fairy-Tale Rewritten

"

In the darkest depths of the deep dark wood,
In a pool of crystal like tears she stood,
Our insignificant Little Red Riding Hood,
Fought off despair as best she could.

Then along the path from the wicked east,
Came the Wolf, a fearsome beast,
With blood stained fur, and flesh strewn teeth,
Her meagre figure just stood beneath.

But then in silence, without a sound,
She laid, eyes closed, upon dampened ground,
"Oh wolf, please tear me limb from limb"
"Death is welcome from the life I'm in".

The wolf, now troubled, emotions wild,
Laid down and stared at the broken child,
No happiness, sadness, was clear to see,
"My child" said the wolf "what troubles thee".

"My mother" she explained "married the woodsman see",
"At first it was joyous, she was so happy",
"But now a year on, no more tender kiss",
"He greets her now with a cold hard fist".

"And now possessed and out of sight",
"He comes to visit me at night......",
"Enough" said the wolf, try as he might,
To hold back the tears for Red Riding Hoods plight.

He whispered softly "climb upon my back",
"We will return together on the forest track",
"There is unspeakable dangers so far from home",
"This is no place to be on your own".

As they approached the cottage, they heard the cries,
The wolf reared up, with bloodshot eyes,
He placed the girl upon the floor,
Then raced full pace, crashed through the door.

The woodsman stood, with strength empowered,
His battered love beneath him cowered,
Surprised, the monster, pulled out a knife,
And pushed away his loyal wife.

With one swift strike, the weapon fell,
Followed by his hand as well,
And as his screams filled all the wood,
The wolf above his victim stood.

He ripped and bit, he tore apart,
He slashed and gauged, he plucked his heart,
And with severed carcass upon the floor,
Mother and daughter were safe once more.

Red Riding Hood cried tears of peace,
Tortured, trapped, she now felt release,
"You have restored my heart, and cleared my head",
"And saved us from the true Wolf instead".
