Broken

Broken

A Poem by A.D. Wilson

A beautiful tree branch

Broken by the heartless wind

Hanging there, still attached

To the mother tree

By an umbilical of bark

New green leaves

Slowly wither, then die

The branch runs through

The cycle of seasons in only

A few day's time

The lifeles branch

Still hangs on

Twisting back and forth

In the unrelenting wind

But never able to tear loose

Dessicated leaves valliantly clinging

To the broken branch

It gives them no life
The mother tree gives no life

To the broken branch

A thing of beauty has become

A useless, dangling limb

Which leaves behind

An ugly scar

I reach up and pull it free
