A Poem by Angeliki Largatzis

Dark
Murky
Suffocating
I claw my way
Through the ground.

Dawn
Blinding
Before my
Newborn eyes
And so I adjust.

Leaves
Wind
Scattering
Autumn air
My senses awakening
I walk onwards.

Familiarities
All around
A destination
I seem to know
Like a routine walk
In the park.

Happy smiles
Lively faces
Brightened eyes
An aged man
And two very
Pretty girls.

Flowers
A whiff of earth
I walk up the steps
And I stop
By the door,
Breathe in
Breathe out -
The door opens
And I smile tenderly
"I'm home."

I really enjoyed reading this. From clawing through the ground and the dawn blinding the character till the door opens and the character says I’m home. You really engaged the senses with this. Kudos.

Thank you very much!
we all hope to go home someday and be with those we loved...once our physical body ceases to exist, the spirit lifts...takes that long journey...
to join the others....
what i find most interesting is how you have the soul leaving the grave much like a baby emerging from the womb....a kind of life that starts with death...a rebirth.
excellent piece,
j.

Ahh, I got it. This is a pome about an earthworm. What would be cool is a sequel, where the worm is killed by a fisherman, but a big fish is caught. Beauty of life, going home, and death going to nowhere. Know what I'm saying?

I did enjoy and you are welcome Angeliki.
This is a brilliant depiction of how a person might be heading to the family get-together for a holiday celebration, and all the while, this person is walking thru various childhood scenes. I love how you magically imbued this with the sensation that the person walking along, in & out of these reveries, is completely immersed in each one. The details you use are so ordinary & yet so fresh & inventive to show unexpected glimpses into each phase of a person's life. This is some of the freshest writing I've been reading here at the cafe. So glad Emmajoy read requested me so I could find you (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

So melancholic and light...really beautiful line sounds in here, and a feeling of hopefulness pervades...such optimism

Thank you for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed.
What a delightful slow, slow step into the where you were and are now. So many small things around you, each adding to what you feel; thoughts almost gelling as if what you thought would be there, is. As you near that special place, you use more words per line, as if the excitement you feel just can't be contained... and.. then.. then.. those last quite beautiful phrases. ' And I smile tenderly 'I'm home.'

Happy, content, yes?
