Stars In The Lake

Stars In The Lake

A Poem by R. S. Morris

Sleeping, but not asleep.
Thinking, but without thoughts.
Tossing, but not turning.
Dreaming makes no sense at all.

Memories kick back to childhood.
Don't know If I'm asleep or awake.
Trying to figure out the problem,
while on my bike in a bad earthquake.

None of this means a thing.
Don't know whats going on.
Forty thousand feet in a Piper Cub,
margaritas in downtown San Juan.

Still struggling with the question,
am I asleep or am I awake?
Really fighting with this,
a dream or a movie remake?

Finally decided I'm awake.
Now standing with my feet in a lake.
Stars in the sky or stars in the water?
Can't tell if it's real or it's fake.

Am I looking up or looking down?
Are the stars in the lake or the sky?
Is it a clear reflection or mirage?
Dead grandmother waving goodbye.

Dream remake makes no sense.
No rhyme or rhythm, to any of this.
I now decide I'm asleep.
Must walk into the bright stars abyss.

The cold water brought me home.
Eyes wide open, now all aware.
Still unsure if I slept at all.
Was it was a dream or a nightmare?

Ah, I can relate to this. Some dreams seem real-er than reality while reality seems like a dream at times. Love the star reference in this poem and the imagery too. Nice reading you. :)
