Lessons from little Red Riding hood.

Lessons from little Red Riding hood.

A Story by Naomi Montana Walsh

There was gravel along each path.. one seemed to twist in and out of a wooded area and the other seemed to be straight, still it was long in it's length and clearly the sun would play harshly in the absence of shade.. on the other hand the wooded path was a mystery ...even supposing that they are both equal in distance.. the straight path would most likely seem the shorter due to it's simplicity ..

whereas the chance of getting lost was greater among the lush and bent configuration of the wooded road.
The little girl looked both ways her little red cape danced on the breeze the smell of sugar and spice and everything nice drifted down the wooded road and was whiffed up the sinister nostrils of a hungry wolf.
" Little Girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl..
where are you headed this fine day?" he growled..
" My grandmother's house"she replied

The wolf thought fast.. take the wooded path it's shorter and so she did.. the sly ole wolf took the simple path in order to beat her to granny's.. and you know what happened there.. the moral of the story is this.. the path you take depends on your purpose and if you don't make simple choices some wolf will come along and make them for you...

I took a lot from this brief reworking of the classic fairytale. Especially that life isn't a fairytale and it is sheer folly to believe that it is. The addition of sugar and spice added the element of traditional gender roles into the overall equation prompting me to think that the 'wolves' in life can smell innocence and naivety and will always be one step ahead of those that follow and don't choose their own path in life. Perhaps it is the none-conformist in me, but I really appreciated reading this write, take care and thanks for your review too, spence
p.s cool pic too!

this was nice,it told me lots of wisdom in it..
sometimes along the road there is always you find a diversion and you are baffled
which way to take..they tell you this is the easy short cut,it will get you where you want
and the other choice is that you take the long way, difficult and hard but its the one usually used
now its always been known ,is to follow where all will go for its been stepped upon by many ..and safe
but again there is always the adventurous side in us to explore the unknown way, even if its dangerous and the end never known
so what road to take, its a risky business, and you should be clever and see how much you are prepared for surprises
and how much you know about your world so you deal with any unsuspected urgency..
if you are wise..and sure of yourself i say you take the risks..if not then go the safe way
funny how a small little story could carry lots of wisdom..and shows you lots of useful knowledge
i was always intrigued by your writing..all make me think a lot..
lovely write..

A great little read but as a reader....cheated.
Cheated because the writer has used a well used path to tell a story that has been told over and over. That's ok because we all resonate with things about us in the dilemma of life and it is ok to put forth something that we identify with as explaining where we are at, at that point in time....however, as it is not original....and therefore, not original, I cannot comment.

isn't that the truth. A nice little spin on the old classic. Well done. Nice graphic pic too. Thank you for stopping by my dusty little page recently for a read. I appreciated it. I don't see many new faces these days. Peace.

I love the illustration. Looks like a tarot card.
Simple works every time. A rule of martial arts.

So well written,
Jack
