When you can Choose...

When you can Choose...

A Poem by Naomi Montana Walsh
"

Just a poem

"

Say, anything, stop, say nothing.

Smile rise into the smile

Place value on it

Attach yourself to it

Become it .

As sure as you can become sadness

You can become happiness

As sure as you can sink in a ocean of tears.

You can rise into a smile.

This , I ask of you , incase at this very moment you’d

Forgotten.

It is not always a choice you can make

When you can choose , choose happiness

Sadness should not be an invited guest.

Oh what lovely advice ,i will do just as you please only if i could..you think i should
its never easy though..when sadness rush in,it sends all smiles away and break your heart
sadness is much stronger..smiles are much weaker than tears
I never could afford lots of smiling..but tears come so easy
and you sink in their oceans..yes at times you may rise
and feel different but only for a fraction of a second..tell me why
its a secret of life i know..we are never allowed too much joy
its like we are forbidden to choose happiness
sadly sadness though never invited
he makes himself always welcome
and i just could do nothing about it..am i right
this is a great write..i read deep behind..its lovely and deep
lovely write..

Very nice poem. I love the punctuation and where you chose to break your lines. It makes it very effective and makes the reader pause to digest every single word. In that regard, I would offer you a suggestion. In the lines:

As sure as you can become sadness
You can become happiness
As sure as you can sink in a ocean of tears.
You can rise into a smile.

i would take out the can become/rise in the second and fourth line, so that it would look something like this:

As sure as you can become sadness
You are happiness
As sure as you can sink in a ocean of tears.
You are a smile.

feel free to ignore this comment. I propose it only because I believe it would add even more to the simplicity and pointedness of the piece. I really enjoyed reading it.

Wow! Naomi! You really hit the nail with this little bit of genius!....how true it is!
I chose one thing, yet i settle for something less than true happiness! That is why i wholly relate to your poem!
