Hazel Eyes

Hazel Eyes

A Poem by Anna Garcia
"

I enjoy straightforward simplicity; reminiscing about my parents.

"
A brown ring for my father;
representing his tanned skin.

Green flecks for my mother;
a remembrance of the Emerald Isle.

Each from an island with unique
and stunning views.

The memories of those views can
be seen and felt by staring deeply.

My father sees his brown ring and
is transported back to his childhood.

Instantly he’s hiking in the dense
rainforest; on guard for the mongoose.

My mother studies her green flecks and
is transported to her childhood.

Stories from her mother of beautiful
rolling hills and a loving family.

The color shifts with my mood; giving
away all my secrets.

With anger, my father emerges and the
brown flares.

With joy, my mother wins out and the
green shines.

I’m thankful for the uniqueness, the
stories, and the history.
