"The Man At The Zoo"

"The Man At The Zoo"

A Poem by Annawanna01

“The Man At The Zoo”

Have I ever told you,

About the man in the zoo?

Who lived his whole life,

During world war II,

His battle worn face,

Covered with scars,

But not nearly as bad,

As the ones on his heart,

He once had a family,

That he loved very much,

He felt his wife's heart,

His daughters warm touch,

But it was not just them,

There was not only two,

But another small child,

In his wife's loving womb,

His daughter, so loved,

Was just turning two,

And she just loved going,

With her dad to the zoo,

Coming home from the zoo,

Was her favorite part,

He'd put her on his shoulders,

And they would look at the art,

It’s amazing one day,

Can change your whole life,

That day the man changed,

His hope cut with a knife,

Things once amazing,

So beautiful and whole,

Were then torn apart,

They were lost in the gore,

An explosion, a cry,

A blanket of fear,

That's all that's left,

With his daughter's last tear,

The man yelled in pain,

Though he was untouched,

For his daughter was gone,

Reality was cut,

The man stumbled home,

To his wife, and her womb,

But all he had there,

Was destroyed with a boom,

Years passed after,

The man broken and torn,

His mind became blank,

His heart cold and worn,

If you ever see him,

The man at the zoo,

Hope he can keep living,

After world war II
