scientific lands of love

scientific lands of love

A Poem by Anne.Triola

There are such things as happy endings
with fairy tales and fables in high demand
the pressure for love has become unbearable
but yet it finds its way
snake in the grass, it undulates against my ribs
Adam's last stand in my chest-
the pulsing throbbing against sinew and bone
scientific reactions are easier to explain.

beneath the wetness of being there is more
the touch of her hand
so smooth on palm, with knuckles rough
like life.
this happy ending could be more
could be written into history
could fight the blackness that is the unknown
could provide sanity and safe keeping
for a heart that has long been in need of repairs

this is no avatar
the physical representation is exact
her smile moves with muscles that switch a frown
it's always when I walk through the door
synapses fire and work the nerve endings
science can explain love.

but the heat that rises along my skin
the tightness against my ribs
the strange symmetry of our hands interlocking
the world slows
scientifically impossible
the world of fairy tales has the edge here
because love is more than nerve endings and reactions
more than tiny capillaries running along the mass of brain
the part we don't use throbs against the thought of her
scientific lands of love-
don't exist.
