Hidden Beach

Hidden Beach

A Poem by Anne Castle

I find my quiet in the loud crashes of waves

I can breathe because my mind is at peace

Here, at Hidden Beach

Somehow, us lost souls have found it

All of us staring at an infinite horizon

Together we look to the restless waves

To show us solutions to our problems

Some find revelation

Most find more questions

Washing our feet in the salty water

Hoping the cleanse will set us on course

Hoping the steady beat of waves will steady our lives

This stretch of sand is our church

And here we look for salvation

Sitting far apart, but united in isolation

Listening for the voice of our creator

To give a reason for our presence

We let go.

Letting the beat of the ocean dictate our breathing

So we don’t have to keep thinking

Trying to forget what drove us here

For a while, we can pretend we’re nothing

Just a part of this wild landscape

Too soon, we’re called back to the stresses of life

And we must become our entities again

But we will return to Hidden Beach

In our never ending quest for identity
