You Inhale Last Night’s Memories

You Inhale Last Night’s Memories

A Poem by Anne Timmins

Dawn breaks
You inhale
Last night’s
Memories…

The sink, a broken window,
The feel of cold marble

The sound, constant
Clank, clank, clank

Echoes heard from afar
You listen, you remember
Rust
Seeping from taps,

The wrench
He left behind

Sits beside a bottle
Of Labatt's Blue
You blink away
Images, flashes
The taste of death,
Flesh burning

Your vision clears,
You are alone,
Safe in your home
You knew what to do…

Dear Anne. A powerful poem. Took the reader to deep thoughts and bad memory. I did like the positive ending. Home away from the confusion is always a good place. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Ominous, sent a chill through my spine, not what I was expecting after I read the first few lines., a disturbing scene plays out on my head but your butterfly avatar confuses me. Sounds like a mad plumber gone off the track but perhaps I've not had enough coffee this morning yet. One to ponder.
