Andrew (part 2)

Andrew (part 2)

A Poem by Anningley

Hi.

Remember me?

The girl you met in summer?

The girl you sang to?

The girl you decided wasn’t worth it?

It’s me.

But you didn’t recognize me?

That’s too bad.

Maybe it’s because you remember

The girl with the big, bright eyes.

The girl that danced her way through life.

The girl that laughed at the sun.

The girl with patience.

The girl with no backbone.

The people-pleaser,

The over-extender,

The bend-over-backwards-try-to-make-you-happy girl.

Well sorry,

She’s not here anymore.

Now my eyes are calm and misty.

I only dance when I have a reason.

I laugh when I think something is funny

And never more.

My patience ran out,

And only came back in a limited supply.

Tread carefully.

My backbone works fine,

Now that you’re not crushing it daily.

I don’t aim to please.

I aim to live for me,

To be alone,

To value what I create

And discard the people that ruin me.

I aim for the best me I can be.

And I’m sorry,

But you just weren’t part of that.
