As We Were

As We Were

A Poem by Ansilla

On a Saturday afternoon,
Barefoot in the sand,
Fingers intertwined,
Our smile in eachother's eye.

It was sheer simplicity,
With the sun setting at our feet.
The day's happiness sealed with an embrace,
And tomorrow's promised with a kiss.

Those moments passed with time,
As does the traffic behind me.
But the memories keep coming back
With every ripple of the ocean at my feet.

These days are different now.
That hopeful spring we shared,
Washed away with summer tides;
And now I stand beneath the gray cloud sky.

Surrounded with the shore's whisper;
It's your voice, a memory so clear.
The love, a feeling still misunderstood.
And the future, always changing.

I pull my coat tighter around me where you should have been,
And as I turn to depart
My eye catches a couple apparently in love,
As we were.

I felt like I was drifting in a lullaby, it flowed effortlessly down the page. Very well scribed.
