Good As You

 

Yes, I'm a freak then.

 

Just like you. 

 

I love just like you do, when you meet that special person

I cry just like you do, when your lover has gone

I breath just like you do, when you inhale Spring air

I die just like you do, when your time has come.

 

But you're not like me! 

 

Really? 

 

I eat, drink, sleep, love, play, work, cry, laugh...

 

No, you are sick and weird. 

 

And you are... what? 

 

 

Thanks, but I think I'll stay a freak.

Yes, no matter who you are ... we all live and experience the same
emotions ... Your poem brings to mind Shylock's 'Hath not a Jew eyes' speech
from Shakepeare's Merchant of Venice expressing that we all live, breath,
and bleed no matter what path we follow..

The title caught my eye. "Good As You" is a very interesting phrase in and of itself. Do you not find it peculiar that it is a thing never said by a pretty girl to an ugly girl or by a thin girl to a fat girl. The college professor never says it to an illiterate person nor does the Wall Street tycoon ever say it to the bum on the street. The fellow in the red Ferrari never says to the guy in the banged up old Datsun..."My car is as good as yours!" Have you never wondered why? I will tell you. It is because it is a lie. It is a statement of an untruth designed by the speaker to make themselves FEEL better than they actually are. It is false vanity. Vanity is a wrong all of its own but a false vanity is a compounded lie. Think about that and apply your logic to discern the truth of the matter. Truth is, after all, the only pursuit worth a person's time since time is life. And if we do not use our lives to discover truth then the only option left to us is to be deceived continually by life. Pain and suffering do not come from love. Love never hurts. Pain and suffering come from misplaced faith and putting our trust in false beliefs. But if one knows the truth, the truth can set them free. Everyone who despises truth is a slave to a lie.
