October

Watching from the window
Blinds half down
Progress in the distance
Leaves on the ground

For weeks I've watched you pass
From green to red you sway
Falling change around me
A slow but true decay

The days are getting shorter
The cold we know too well
Loneliness consuming
I try hard not to dwell

The wind thieves your face
And strips your branches bare
Not able for the winter
Not able anywhere

Author's Note

Anthony J
Autumn brings a cold and unforgiving change. Each day changing colour, each tree losing it's leaves, it's identity, but still standing..

A personal piece, a reflection of mind in this moment of time. Construction work in the field afar is a reference to what's ahead in life even if the current situation is staggering. Cold mornings, dark evenings, everybody can relate - It might lower the tone when I invoke feelings of loneliness but I'd like to think the piece draws more focus to the fact that I'm watching from a distance and not getting too consumed, at least trying to. I guess it's all about watching your emotions from afar in a way. Stepping back but still conscious of change.
