Phoenix

I don't know if this is really a poem, but it is a poetic version of my feelings towards the world at this time.

It is upon our shoulders to defend the earth from our own kind,

But we sit in ignorance to the pain we have caused her body and heart,

Her strength is sapped away every day by:

Our greed,

Our hate,

Our resentment to the gifts she has laid before us.

She falters as we continue to destroy one another,

Pulling each other closer to the same flames we unknowingly kill her with,

We are so distracted not by who but by the dehumanizing "What" we label with,

So distracted with trying to harm one another we do not see our fate,

Perhaps it is already too late.

Even if we turn our gaze too it now,

We have already been burned.

Perhaps we are already helpless to our fire.

To destruction.

To emptiness.

To renewal.

And though the fire has gone out of control,

The earth is our forgiving mother,

She learned from her mother and siblings,

that life can carry on after death.

Like the star here before Earth or any of her siblings were born,

When we die we can continue to give life,

So the earth shall live on,

Never the same,

Scarred, old, and worn,

But like a phoenix she rises.

She is resilient,

But alone and far quieter. 

Song and art gone,

Her brightest children destroyed themselves,

Even though they were capable of 

loving,

Creating,

Sharing.

Those who survive the clash of her stars live forever in warning,

Live to your potential.

Nature takes over in the end.

We are all the same star.

Continue life like the star.
