Dreamscapes

A Poem by Aaron Stewart
"

I basically took a poem I had done before and revamped it so that it would sound better--let me know what you think.

Dreamscapes

Kids float over their desks
As rain falls from classroom ceilings,
Swallowed by rippling pages of notebook paper.

A man stands enraptured by an eagle searching for prey
As lightning strikes on a sunny day—
He finds himself in flight as he becomes that eagle,
Gazing down at himself looking up at him.

A woman runs forever, yet never leaves the room
While a boy remaining steady watches the world race by.
Lips are moving—no sound,
Yet a cacophony flows from the closed mouths of others.

Evocative conversations held with loved ones long gone
Over the meaning of life—or lack thereof.
Loved ones become hated ones, famous ones…
Forgotten ones. The conversation goes on, as does life—
Which may or may not have meaning, of course.

Dreams are where our memories lie,
Where the unlikely is reality and reality is an illusion,
Where happily-ever-after isn’t everyone’s favorite cliché,
Where one really can live and love forever—

Why do we ever wake up?
