Average Jane

Average Jane

A Poem by Arabdha
"

she is the woman you see everyday..but never notice..

"

She was the girl you would see through..

living her life in a closed box..

where from  people like you refrain..

She was your average Jane..

She pulled her hair..

and tidied her gown..

ate a bowl of stew and donuts brown..

she was always there..

just that you never saw her..

She was your average Jane..

She dreamed of princes, castles and mountains..

Lived a world of witches and goblins..

She thought Narnia was a real place..

And hoped to go to Hogwarts some day..

You never noticed..

But she was always there..

To shed a silent tear..

When Sally dumped you for the guy next door..

And to sympathize with the underdog..

You were never there..

But oft she thought of you..

And wondered if you knew her name..

She walked the alleys and visited deserted houses..

Thought of what could have been..

Had things not ended  the way they had..

Her world was sad..

But she didn’t mind..

Her life was perfect..

Reality she had left behind..

She was your average Jane..

She breathed and hoped..

Wished and lived..

Years went by..

and she still walked the deserted lanes..

she was old and haggard..

Then one day she fell ill and died..

Her story had come to an end..

You didn’t notice she was gone..

Never even bothered to pay your respect..

Not that she would have held a grudge..

But you know ,you should have gone..

I heard she had a sad funeral..

Attended by a few..

Lone  she was..

Even in death..

You didn’t see it..

But her tombstone read-

“Rebecca Meyers..

Always there,forever invisible..”

She was your average Jane..

i often think of the "invisible" people in our world who never experience the parties and the accolades and thrills of others, but yet still have the thirst, hunger and desire for that which so many of us take for granted. blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. these are the meek. their reward is forthcoming. you are an enlightened soul for giving them their due. awesome write!

Eleanor Rigby, ehh?

It's a sad, classic story. Nicely written.

This was really good. It was a sad one since she died a lonely soul, but the fact that she let reality behind and lived in her own world made it almost a happy piece.

Great write

Many go un-noticed by society I don't know if it is because the person doens't engage society or society ignores them but either way it is sad to live life alone. I often notice plane janes because they tend to stick out to me, the ones by the walls, quiet and observing I notice them usually before they ever notice me. Great write and a great new something different for you. Excellent.

Though you described a woman who lived her life alone, you didn't talk about a lonely woman. She had rich imagination and as we can all here atest, that's the stuff of manna.

Tragic in the sad acceptance of her fate, and the fact that no one in particular noticed. Very well written.

I'm completely taken by your work, this is amazing. You paint a person so tragic, but not in her own mind, because she had already left reality a long time ago. Yet, she was always there, amongst people, but just went unnoticed. It seems really tragic that even in death she passed along unnoticed. It almost reminds me of this Wordsworth poem I read a while back, essentially his character died unnoticed and it was sad, yet sweet because he was saying he remembered her. The name of the poem was "She Dwelt among the Untrodden Ways". I like you put more of what would probably seem a realist spin on this poem. For being the first work of yours I’ve ever read, I think this is a masterpiece.

I really liked this its so unique, sad and beautiful a lot of people can relate to this poem; the feeling of being invisible and alone no ones immune to that

I believe many people feel like this in life and then there are those who actually live like this. Sometimes we need to open our eyes and see what is around us and pay closer attention to other people.
