Smile

Smile

A Poem by Lydia Thacker

There is something in your smile
which I cannot describe

I know only that it is
the sunlight
in my otherwise dreary
life

It brings me a joy
which no words could relate
-but missing it
brings a pain which I hope
you never have to know

Author's Note

Lydia Thacker
Written for my son, Eric, whom I don't see often enough and whose smile fills me with hope for the future. I hope he never knows how much the absence of him hurts me, because I couldn't bear to know that I, however inadvertently, caused his smile to fade.
